• Censorship of Media Asia and the Pacific

Under-Secretary General: İlgim Mina Abat

UNESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. UNESCAP provides a forum for all governments of the Asia and Pacific region to discuss economic and social issues and promote collaboration.

Disasters in Asia an the  Pacific region are becoming increasingly complex and affecting various countries in the said region. With the implementation of SDGs, Seven Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) have been created; including Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience. In 2014 UNESCAP adopted resolution 70/2, which established an expert group on disaster statistics and management.

Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) are agreements between nations including Asia and Pacific. FTAs directly and indirectly cause Human Rights Violations (HRVs) which includes freedom of speech and expression. These particular rights include freedom of the media stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ensuring freedom of the press is a priority and should be guaranteed, stated by UNESCAP.
